FNB today announced that they have launched their BlackBerry banking Application, which works on the new BlackBerry Bold 9900 and features messaging/SMS on all BlackBerry devices.

Previous versions of the FNB BlackBerry App did not include SMS functionality.

“The addition of SMS to the BlackBerry devices is important to FNB’s strategy of allowing free communications between FNB customers. The customer is able to use the FNB App as part of their BlackBerry Internet Subscription or BIS and therefore does not have to pay for data charges,” says Farren Roper, head of products and markets at FNB Connect.

“This means that similar to BlackBerry’s popular messaging system, BBM which enables users to send free messages between BlackBerry contacts, FNB now gives its customers an absolutely free messaging platform to other FNB customers who have the FNB Banking App. Unlike device specific messaging platforms, our App also allows users to send SMS to any other handsets at a lower price than traditional mobile rates,” he adds.

FNB adds that there are some exciting innovations planned around Messaging in the very near future which will give clients even more convenience and instant gratification.

The FNB BlackBerry Application now also works on the BlackBerry Bold 9900 which is the latest BlackBerry Smartphone and features a keyboard as well as touch display.

“We had a large number of BlackBerry users writing us and commenting on social media with queries about availability of the  FNB App on the new BlackBerry Bold 9900. Listening to what our customers are asking for is paramount to the development life cycle of the Banking App,” says Roper.

FNB recently announced a smartphones and tablet deal whereby a client can finance a smartphone and tablet over 24 months at 0% interest. Part of that smartphone offer includes a BlackBerry 8520.
