Telkom prices to go up
Telkom’s overall basic voice and data services will increase by 1.2% from August. This after Telkom filed price adjustments which will see PrepaidFone local calls increase by 5%, while long distance calls remain unchanged. ZTE court challenge to affect customers
Attempts to challenge tenders issued by the company in court, will only stall rollout plans to customers, says Telkom.
Last week the High Court granted an interim interdict pending the finalisation of a dispute resolution process between Telkom and ZTE Mzansi. Pending the outcome of the dispute resolution process, Telkom is interdicted from implementing the tender and concluding any service level agreement with the bidders.
While Telkom says it is confident that its procurement policy will stand up to any scrutiny – it notes its worried by the recent trend of challenging the awarding of key tenders in the courts.
Telkom revamps consumer offerings
Telkom says it is streamlining its consumer fixed line voice portfolio to focus on simplicity, value and affordability. Effective immediately a number of value added services will be offered free of charge to postpaid voice customers. Telkom upgrades broadband network
Telkom has revealed plans to roll-out 3700 Multi-Service Access Nodes (MSANs), as it works towards creating an all-IP network designed to enable fixed-mobile convergence and high-speed broadband.
The plans to revamp its network were announced in Pretoria this morning, as the operators’ engineers installed the first MSAN in Waterkloof Ridge.
To date, Telkom has deployed 2700 fibre access nodes. These will be replaced with MSANs as it aims to increase its Fibre To The Curb (FTTC) rollout to 3700 points of presence across the country.
Telkom pleased with fixed line results
Telkom says its commitment to an aggressive broadband strategy has produced positive results for its fixed line business.
For the six months ended 30 September 2011 Telkom reported a growth in fixed line EBITDA margin from 37.5% to 39.1%.
Following the release of its results earlier today, the operator notes that the positive results would help pave the way for its journey towards true fixed mobile convergence and entry into the content aggregation market.
Group CEO, Nombulelo Moholi noted that in light of current market conditions this was a significant achievement for Telkom.
