Mimecast, a supplier of cloud-based email archiving, continuity and security for Microsoft Exchange and Office 365 - announced that it has extended its mobile services to the iPhone.

With the Mimecast iPhone App, employees gain a bottomless mobile inbox, and the ability to search and access archived emails from their mobile device.  The new Mimecast iPhone App is free and available now for download from the App Store.

The company’s new Mobile Access licensing plan, will also include support for Mimecast archive search from iPhone and BlackBerry devices and email continuity for BlackBerry users.  Mimecast will extend the new licensing plan to other mobile platforms over the coming months, including Windows Mobile and Android devices.

“Consumerization of IT is here – employees are increasingly showing up to work with their personal devices and businesses need to realize enterprise mobility is no longer a nice-to-have. Our Mobile Access for the iPhone builds on our existing mobile strategy, which enables organizations to increase mobile workforce productivity and agility within a secure enviornment. By extending our Mobile Access offering to the iPhone, and soon to other platforms, enterprises both large and small can give their entire workforce increased flexibility and ensure employees can remain productive, regardless of device or location,” said Garth Wittles, managing director, Mimecast South Africa.

Apple recently cited that 91% of Fortune 500 companies have either adopted the iPhone within the enterprise or are testing the device for deployment.  With the new Mimecast App, iPhone users gain a bottomless mobile inbox and mobile search capabilities, including the ability to search the entire email archive.

This search feature allows users to hone in on particular dates, senders and even content in specific parts of the email such as subject line, attachments or message headers. The application also presents users with a mobile Online Inbox, giving them uninterrupted access to all new and received emails, even when their Exchange service is down.

“Convenient and quick access to your mail and archive absolutely key. This holds true whether your systems are down or you are simply looking to leverage the indexed archive of mail when you’re not at your desk. The Mimecast iPhone app enables exactly this for our users. Given the simple installation and easy navigation of the app, users are empowered to download the app and get going in minutes. Access to information any time is a large part of what cloud is promising and in this case what Mimecast iPhone app is delivering,”  said Dominic Oettl, CEO of Think IT.
