Zuma announces new ministers
Dina Pule, currently the deputy minister for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, has been appointed minister of Communications after Zuma announced changes to Cabinet earlier today.
Deputy Communications minister, Obed Bapela, will be replaced by ANC Member of Parliament, Thembisa Stella Ndabeni. Bapela has been appointed deputy minister in the Presidency for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation.
The announcements come after Zuma axed Public Works minister, Gwen Mahlangu-Nkabinde, and Traditional Affairs and Co-operative Governance minister, Sicelo Shiceka – after unfavourable reports by the office of the Public Protector.
Public Service and Administration minister, Richard Baloyi, has been appointed to replace Shiceka – while current Communications minister, Roy Padayachie, will take over the Public Service and Administration portfolio.
Other changes include the appointment of Thembelani Nxesi, the deputy minister for Rural Development and Land Reform as the new Public Works minister. Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, the deputy minister of Public Works, will be the deputy minister for Women, Children and Persons with Disability – while Lechesa Tsenoli, chairperson of the portfolio committee on cooperative governance and traditional affairs, has been appointed deputy minister for Rural Development and Land Reform.
