Govt mulls options for Telkom
Communications minister, Dina Pule, is finalising the options for Telkom’s future.
According to her department, she is completing the process in consultation with the Telkom board. This is after options were submitted to Cabinet and returned to Pule following the board changes at the company.
Pule has met with Telkom twice already with the last meeting taking place last week.
“After the recent meeting with the Telkom board, I’m convinced that we shall be able to resubmit the options for Cabinet’s consideration within March 2013. I am excited by the boards commitment and the passion in addressing the challenges and opportunities facing Telkom,” says Pule.
The department is in the process of aligning Telkom with its goals of universal broadband access. After Cabinet rejected the company’s proposed transaction with Korean company, KT, government has been in the process of drafting options for the future of the telecoms company.
