6500 young students will be placed in learnerships and internships across the province.

The Gauteng provincial government says over 5000 young people have been placed in internships in the private sector in critical skills areas such as ICT.

Speaking during the State of the Province address, Gauteng premier, Nomvula Mokonyane said another 6500 young people would be placed in learnerships and internships to gain experiential learning.

“Our skills for industry programme will result in the training of 2255 artisans and technicians in the automotive, ICT and other sectors,” Mokonyane said.

She added that the provincial government would work closely with FET colleges and the Department of Higher Education to achieve its goals.

“We will work closely with the Department of Higher Education to ensure that our young people and industries take advantage of massive opportunities offered,” she said.
