FNB Connect offers free YouTube

FNB Connect today announced that their ADSL customers will be provided with free unlimited access to download, view and share videos for the next two months.

As from 6 May – 1 July 2011, customers who are registered for FNB Connect Surf will be able to browse the popular video viewing site 24/7 to upload, view and share videos.

“Broadband access is reaching more consumers and we are in a digital age in which multi-media and social media are

becoming more widespread and popular in South Africa and worldwide.

As part of our innovative and customer centric approach, we are enabling our customers to be part of this growing trend by giving the free access to YouTube,” says Farren Roper, head of products and markets at FNB Connect.

8ta reveals data plans for iPad2

Mobile operator,8ta, has announced that it will extend its iPad dedicated data plans to the next generation iPad 2 with Wi-Fi + 3G starting 29 April 2011.

The company’s data plans for the iPad 2 offers access to its 3G data network and all data plans will be available without a contract, providing the freedom to activate or cancel a plan at any time.

The 8ta data tariffs and features for the iPad 2 will remain the same as that offered for the first generation device.

8ta offers free You Tube on Blackberry

8ta and Research In Motion (RIM) have announced the availability of the BlackBerry solution for 8ta customers with free mobile YouTube streaming of up to 500MB per month available from 24 April 2011.

At launch, 8ta will offer a free BlackBerry Internet Service subscription for the first three months for customers on Contract 1 with the BlackBerry Curve 8520 smartphone. At the end of the three months, 8ta customers subscribed to the hero deal will enjoy a further discounted BlackBerry Internet Service  plan of R49 per month for the remaining 21 month duration of their contract.

Hedberg heads to Altech

Hedberg heads to Altech

Former Cell C and Telkom executive, Jeffrey Hedberg, has been appointed Chief Operating Officer (COO) at the Altech Group, effective 1 July 2011.

The JSE-listed company announced that the former CEO of Cell C and acting group CEO of Telkom would soon be responsible for the operational leadership of Altech’s 33 operating companies with the group executives of the Telecommunications, Multi-Media and Information Technology (TMT) divisions reporting to him.

 According to to Altech group CEO, Craig Venter, Hedberg’s skills and experience ideally match Altech’s key strategic objectives of growth through globalisation, income base diversification, M&A activities and convergence.

Vodacom has officially unveiled its new brand and identity at the Unlimited music festival in Soweto.

At 9pm, fans saw the stadium turn from blue to red in a display which culminated with a link to the iconic Ponte tower, illuminated for the first time in red.
Unveiling the operator’s largest ever brand make-overs, Vodacom Group CEO Pieter Uys noted that its services would also improve.

“The change in colour is the tip of the iceberg, just the outside indication of a much bigger change at Vodacom. The role we play in our customers’ lives has changed – connectivity has gone from a convenience to a basic need, and we need to turn our business on its head to make sure that we cater for this.”
